Like an elegant city living room, Remedy pauses the hustle and bustle of everyday life for a by-the-glass offering of refined wines and spirits

In the Porta Venezia area, three friends - Michele Bernardi, Alessandro Michelon and Amedeo Pagano - put their passions on the map (and in the cellar). Fine drinking finds space in a wide-ranging proposal: 18,000 bottles of wine and 2,000 distilled spirits where quality and excellence are expressed only by the glass, because at Remedy they drink in purity and never in mixing.

Three friends and a passion by the glass
Remedy is the brainchild of three friends already active in the restaurant business as well as great wine lovers, each with their own started winery. In the beginning, Michele and Amedeo (both from Puglia) entertain a supplier/customer relationship: Michele with his “Bernardi Wine & Spirits” supplies Masseria Bagnara, owned by Amedeo. In the meantime, Alessandro founded the agricultural enterprise Masseria Borgo dei Trulli in Puglia , in the Primitivo DOC Manduria production area, with the intention of enhancing those territories and the historic sapling vineyards. It was during his time in Puglia that Alessandro met Amedeo and Michele, with whom he discovered he shared a strong and unique passion for wines and spirits.

Time passes and, amidst excellent wines to drink together and an ever-stronger friendship, they set off for Burgundy: a journey during which Michele, Alessandro and Amedeo's desire and desire to give life to a reality capable of uniting their passion comes to light. Slowly, piece by piece, the idea of a place where to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the city and be able to find “remedy” in a relaxing environment of great elegance takes shape.

“For years we have been collecting wines and spirits from all over the world, and we decided that the time had come to share the fruit of our research with others as well, from the enthusiast to the collector of rare bottles, passing simply for the customer who likes to drink well and who wants to spend an evening with a unique and authentic atmosphere.” Thus, in the heart of Porta Venezia, between Viale Majno and Via Morelli, Remedy was born: a city lounge where wine and spirits lovers can find one of the best beverage offerings in Italy.

Wine cellar and more
Of course, Remedy's beating heart lies in the exclusive and secret vault in the basement, as well as the wine cellar (which can be visited upon request), where they store their personal collection of fine labels. From the most renowned wine regions of France - Burgundy, Champagne, Bordeaux - to those of Italy, the wine list is undoubtedly characterized by its deep international scope.

The 18,000 total bottles sign the meticulous work put in over years of research, and the selection of wines by the glass is also impressive, with more than 60 wines by the glass. The founders to this day offer, critically, a varied but always top-quality range that puts faith in the great classics but also in niche references. It is precisely to the rarest bottles that the menu devotes a special section from which guests can choose a bottle for their table.

Fundamental is undoubtedly the storage of the bottles with an environment that maintains a constant temperature of 13-14°C and humidity control that is between 70 and 80 percent. Soft lighting is also instrumental in preserving the organoleptic properties of the wines to the fullest, and the wooden shelves are angled to ensure that the corks remain moist and do not break when pouring.

Not only wines, however. Rounding out the offerings, in fact, and prominently displayed from the beautiful counter at the entrance, are the nearly 2,000 labels of spirits to be drunk exclusively on their own. What sets Remedy apart is precisely its choice to leave the big labels alone with a flat-out no to mixology, so no to tonic, lemon and soda for gin, whiskey or vodka. “This way we can enhance the true essence of spirits and bring out their aromas, scents and authentic flavor."

A real gem hidden among the various rooms is also the Cigar Room where aficionados can bring with them cigars and pipes to smoke in an elegant and reserved environment; reserved just like the private room (which can also be accessed through a secondary entrance) dedicated mainly to meetings or gatherings but also to small private parties in a speakeasy perspective, where the large round table and its 8 red armchairs are surrounded by only fine bottles.

The kitchen proposal
Accompanying the beverage is a proposal of equal quality in the kitchen as well: not really dishes but rather small bites, capable of enhancing wines and spirits, without ever overshadowing them. From a selection of artisanal cured meats and cheeses to raw seafood such as tartare, carpaccio and the freshest oysters. Also included is a premium menu curated by Espresso Giada (artisanal coffee roaster from Pistoia), where some coffee goodies stand out, such as the one aged in former rum barrels.

Comfortable leather armchairs and wood-effect marble coffee tables greet guests as they enter. An interplay of chiaroscuro sees the large chandelier reflect on the dark wood paneling and reeded wainscoting. Apulian craftsmanship then arrives in Milan through the perforated ceramic lamps, bowls, and dedicated serving ware-a tribute to Michele's hometown of Grottaglie, famous worldwide for its ceramic artisans. Structured on several levels and inspired by the iconic and sophisticated Anglo-Saxon clubs, Remedy allows you to breathe a refined and welcoming atmosphere in a small temple of fine drinking.
