The most beloved wine in American restaurants? Brunello di Montalcino, the red wine with the most presence on the wine lists of restaurants in the United States. "Top 150 Italian Wines in American Restaurants" reveals this, a special ranking created by wine2wine of Vinitaly in collaboration with Somm.ai, the largest American database of on-premise wine and liquor lists, which analyzed the positioning of the top 150 Italian wines in American cellars.
In particular, 17 wineries are included in the top 150: Castello Banfi, Tenuta Greppo (Biondi Santi), Il Poggione (owned by Franceschi), Tenuta Caparzo, Argiano, Altesino, Tenuta Col d’Orcia, Pian Delle Vigne (Antinori), Valdicava, Pieve Santa Restituta (Gaja), Casanova di Neri, Ciacci Piccolomini d’Aragona, Castelgiocondo (Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi), Tenute Silvio Nardi, Castiglion del Bosco, Canalicchio di Sopra, and Camigliano. And there are 12,228 labels on the menus of establishments, with prices mostly in triple digits, ranging from a maximum of $1,213 per bottle to a minimum of $90 per bottle.
The Price Observatory of the Brunello di Montalcino Wine Consortium also states that the United States represents the top foreign market for the Tuscan denomination, accounting for approximately 30% of sales abroad and showing a year-on-year growth of 29% in value by the end of 2022.
