Receipts Under Scrutiny in Ibiza: Spanish Influencer Pablo Cabezali Shares His Bill from the Jondal Restaurant, and €10 Water Bottle Sparks Public Outrage.
The news
A far-from-diluted bill is what Pablo Cabezali, a renowned Spanish food influencer, received after dining at Jondal, one of the most exclusive luxury beach clubs in Ibiza. On social media, it wasn't so much the prices of the dishes enjoyed by Pablo, ranging from €83 to €135, that came under scrutiny, but the €10 spent on each bottle of water. The summer of outrageous receipts seems to have crossed Italian borders and made its way to the Balearic Islands.
Astonished by the bill, Cabezali's followers, famous for his channel "Dining with Pablo," immediately unleashed a flurry of protest comments about the cost of water. In fact, the prices of dishes made from premium ingredients stirred up less controversy, perhaps because Jondal, the restaurant of the renowned Chef Rafa Zafra where Pablo dined, is an establishment that sells over two kilograms of caviar daily. This isn't the first time Zafra has had to justify his pricing policy; back in 2021, in an interview with El Pais, he emphasized how quality and excellence come with a specific cost.
"All prices are calibrated to ensure that the staff can afford housing, which is excessively expensive in Ibiza: salaries take this into account. The restaurant employs 70 people, plus another 5 service supervisors. We serve 350 meals a day at €150 or even more per customer, but all the products are of the highest quality, resulting in significant expenses for the restaurant. An example? We spend €140,000 per month just on seafood and fish," he explains.
Product quality is indispensable for the Spanish chef, who has a refrigerated plane bring in products selected by his father-in-law to the market in Rosas every day at his restaurant on the trendiest island in the Balearics. Needless to say, this also impacts the cost of the culinary experience under the Jondal brand.
