Lake Orta is home to one of the hottest destinations of the moment: Laqua by The Lake, Antonino Cannavacciuolo's exclusive boutique resort hotel with an ethical approach and cuisine awarded by Michelin.
An exceptional location, Lake Orta. Yes, first and foremost the location, the magnificent left bank of Lake Orta. The most romantic lake in Italy, in the town of Pettenasco, which you reach after admiring the delightful island of San Giulio from the road and passing in front of Villa Crespi (jointly owned with this hotel, creating a synergy between the two hotels with Michelin-starred restaurants: three macarons at Villa Crespi and already one here, in this secluded resort, well protected from prying eyes and hit-and-run tourists).

The rooms
The large parking lot precedes the austere entrance, which then opens onto “Bellezza.” On one side, the rooms, suites, and panoramic penthouses are almost an extension of the surrounding landscape—including the pedestrian walkway—as they convey tranquility and extreme relaxation, inviting guests to be in constant contact with the environment. This is also because the structure has adapted to the standards that make a hotel “green” or, as is customary these days, eco-sustainable. In total, there are 5 double rooms, 14 suites, and 2 panoramic penthouses, plus an exclusive dock.

Wellness
There is a wide range of treatments on offer, including the original The Longevity Suite, which, as its name suggests, guarantees extreme relaxation of body and mind. Serenity and well-being, where even the climate of the lake contributes with its slow pace. Advanced technology and personalized rituals are another important aspect in choosing to stay at this splendid hotel, which also has a beautiful swimming pool with solarium.

The Bar
A stop at the bar is highly recommended. As expected, it is well-stocked behind the long counter, where you can confidently approach for a substantial drink. We recommend a kir royal to better tune in to what will happen at the restaurant table, which was recently—and rightly—awarded its first Michelin star.

The restaurant
Very spacious, with indoor seating and, of course, a terrace overlooking the lake. A great undertaking for Gianni Bertone, originally from Molise, a region that does not boast many award-winning restaurants, but here he has found an experienced interpreter who comes, almost obviously, from Villa Crespi. The number of covers is challenging, but Matteo Pastrello, a long-standing maître d' and sommelier, takes care of the dining room and terrace; he will deliver the menu and an extensive wine list.

So, what's on the menu? Gianni Bertone is a refined chef, as you can tell from the amuse-bouches, even before the dishes are served. The menu is also quite challenging for the kitchen, as there are three tasting menus consisting of 6/7 courses: Brezza (€110), Acquolina (€140), and Vegetariano (€110). The wine pairing costs 50 euros, which is quite reasonable. À la carte, you can opt for two dishes of your choice (90 euros). Our recommendations? In season, don't miss: Rice, frogs, garlic, and parsley; Cappellacci with robiola cheese, mushrooms, and truffles; Pigeon, kefir, figs, and Porto Rosso. For dessert, don't miss Antonino's babà, a tribute to the creator of this other high-class gastronomic stop.
