Only €60 per day for a shift slot that can be up to 11 hours long: the shocking offer in the hotel sector.
The dark side of the hotel industry: the job offer that shocked the web
Behind the apparent idyll of a dinner out or a quick coffee, there often lies a working reality made up of sacrifices and extreme conditions. A job offer that emerged from the digital jungle has lifted the veil on a practice that is unfortunately widespread in the restaurant industry, sparking a wave of outrage on social media. The debate took off thanks to a post on the account X (formerly Twitter) @soycamarero, a real megaphone for workers in the sector. The profile manager, Jesús Soriano, shared a screenshot of a chat offering a job that was nothing short of inhumane. The employer's ad was for a position with split shifts and grueling hours: from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and, after a short break, again from 8:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. The offer included only one half-day off per week (Wednesday morning), all for a salary of just €60 per day.

Collective outrage and condemnation of an established practice
Reactions were swift. Hundreds of users vented their anger in comments, pointing the finger at the low pay and exhausting hours. Many pointed out the bitter irony of some employers complaining about young people's “lack of motivation to work” when the conditions offered are such as to discourage anyone. What made the story even more bitter was the comment of one user who stated: “The worst thing is that this is a common offer.” This transformed the outrage over a single incident into a denunciation of an established and unacceptable practice in the sector. The post thus shone a spotlight on a hidden reality, demonstrating the power of social media to give a voice to those who would otherwise remain unheard.
