Outrageous prices on the trendiest island of the cyclades: DK Oyster Bar in Mykonos under fire again for "scamming" two tourists who ordered a simple drink, only to end up spending €520.
Despite numerous complaints and grievances from the summer of 2022, the controversies about high prices in Mykonos shows no signs of calming down. Once again, at the center of the storm this year is the well-known DK Oyster Bar on Platis Yialos Beach, situated on the trendiest island of the Cyclades. Just like last August, the voice of protest comes from an American tourist, 25-year-old New Yorker Amber Pace, who was on vacation in Mykonos with a friend.
Despite the eye-popping prices at DK Oyster Bar being well-known, Amber decided to stop by the establishment during her vacation and order two cocktails to avail the complimentary lounge chairs offered to guests. However, she took precautions - due to prior experiences - to confirm the price of the drink. "I told our waiter three times: please make sure the drinks are the ones for 17 pounds (€20), we just want a Pina Colada and a Strawberry Daiquiri. He kept saying he understood," Amber tells The Sun.
Despite the tourist's precautions, the final bill she was presented with for two drinks, fried calamari (which she described as rubbery), and crab claws (too salty) amounted to a whopping €520 - including the drinks and a 10% tip. "The waiter gave us a receipt that showed the price of €98 for calamari and €185 for crab claws. We almost fainted."
The next day, the two girls tried to clarify the matter with the restaurant's manager, who simply accused them of not paying attention to the menu; a menu that Amber claims she never received. "The owner was rude, mocked us, and did nothing to resolve the situation," recounts the tourist, whose complaints don't seem to bother the entire staff of DK Oyster Bar in the slightest.
