The two MICHELIN starred Chef Arnaud Faye complains about a negative trend in gastronomy (and it hasn’t only happened to him): after having accepted the job, the new alleged employees decided to never even show up for work.

The news

Two MICHELIN starred chef Arnaud Faye has been "left alone," but unfortunately this is not breaking news. Two employees have gone through the regular hiring but in the end decided not to show up in the kitchen on their first day of work. The chef and owner of the Relais and Chateaux Arnaud Faye and restaurant La Chevre D'or, complained on his Instagram account precisely about the lack of seriousness that penalizes the industry.

"After contacting them regarding size of their uniforms, they announced that they wouldn’t be coming... When I try to call them to understand the reason for the abrupt turnaround, nobody answers. We had made many efforts to agree on different type of compromises for them to take the job while turning down several other candidates who wanted to fill these positions within the brigade.

Now I'd like to ask everyone to reflect on the meaning of the word commitment. There are people who leave their positions in the middle of the season for seemingly no reason, sapping the entire team; others commit lots of energy to achieve a certain position, then give no sign of life. All these behaviors have a negative impact on the team and the company that puts its trust in the staff. I feel sorry for all the beautiful resumes we have received that we had to turn down and then found ourselves without cooks."

Lack of commitment when accepting jobs in the restaurant industry has been an issue that was widely discussed during the release of the MICHELIN Guide 2023 in Strasbourg. The reason, perhaps, must be found in the lack of motivation, or in the possibility of searching for more opportunities for growth by keeping multiple positions ‘“on hold,” and then abandoning the accepted position that is less convenient in terms of money or convenience.

The French chef, surely, took the opportunity to point out misbehavior on the part of new employees. Now his search has begun again, and we wish him better luck.
