The renowned American chef has made her decision: Petit Crenn, the sister restaurant to Atelier, will open in mid-May and then close in September when its lease expires. She may be moving to a new location in the future.

The news
Among the victims of the pandemic's wrath was Petit Crenn, the casual restaurant opened by Dominique Crenn in 2015. The news is that it will reopen in mid-May, according to Robb Report, but only for 5 months due to the expiration of the lease, as an official source indicates. Despite this, Petit Crenn is still alive, they assure, and the temporary setback won't halt the group's international expansion, which already includes, besides Atelier, Bar Crenn, also in San Francisco, and Golden Poppy in Paris.

The restaurant was intended from the beginning as a tribute to the cooking of the great Franco-Californian chef's mother and grandmother, while Atelier represented her father's side, a politician and gourmet. Then came the sudden closure and the use of the space for pop-ups and special events in partnership with producers and winemakers. The dishes featured produce from Bleu Belle Farm and a selection of fish, since the celebrated chef had already banned meat, describing it as “crazily complicated, both for the food system and the environment as a whole.”

"Honestly, it was easier to remove it from the menu in one go. Local, sustainable fish and vegetables are just as, if not more, versatile and delicious.” But now everything is changing, albeit for only a handful of months: from Wednesday to Saturday, guests can enjoy an evening tasting menu for $210, including wine and non-alcoholic pairings. Reservations opened on Friday the 19th, with more dates to follow. It remains to be seen whether this is a romantic farewell or if there's a plan to relocate to a new site in the future.
