Amid global financial maneuvers and the looming threat of layoffs: Prism’s acquisition of Revo sends shockwaves through the German hospitality industry.

In the refined world of luxury hospitality, where attention to detail and the art of hospitality are the main attractions, a story with a decidedly bitter aftertaste is unfolding. A massive hotel finance deal risks leaving some 500 industry professionals high and dry, upending what had been billed as a grand-scale rescue.

The Grand Chessboard of Hotel Brands

The map of German hospitality is redrawing its boundaries. At the center of the storm is the imminent plan for the Indian conglomerate Prism—a global giant with over 22,000 properties worldwide—to acquire the portfolio of Revo, a group that entered receivership last January. The deal aims to acquire 24 prestigious hotels spread throughout Germany, set to be reborn under the Sunday brand.

Among the properties involved are numerous locations associated with leading brands in the hospitality sector:

  • H+ Hotels and H2 Hotels
  • Dorint
  • Mercure
  • Vienna House Easy
  • Ramada by Wyndham
  • As well as a selection of historic independent properties.

Tensions in the dining room and kitchen: The taste of uncertainty

Although major financial maneuvers promise continuity for the properties, behind the scenes the atmosphere is anything but festive. About half a thousand workers have already received layoff notices from Revo’s outgoing management. The company is, in fact, taking advantage of loopholes in bankruptcy law to reduce the notice period to a maximum of just three months—a move that has sparked a strong reaction from the NGG (Food, Beverages, and Catering Union).

“Where works councils exist, they must be fully involved in decision-making processes. We expect much greater transparency and will closely monitor developments at the affected hotels, supporting employees in exercising their rights,” says Mark Baumeister, NGG Hospitality Sector Manager

Transparency and Protection: The Union’s Appeal

The NGG union firmly calls for the immediate suspension of the layoff process, demanding that Revo and Prism engage in a clear, transparent dialogue that respects the rights of those who ensure service excellence every day. The organization strongly urges all employees affected by these measures to contact their local NGG office and file an appeal for wrongful termination within the mandatory three-week deadline established by law.
