A talented sommelier, Florent Martin, was awarded the Best Sommelier of France in 2020. He contributed to the creation of “Sensations,” a documentary about sommelierie and is involved in several projects to share his passion for wine, aiming to make it accessible and enjoyable.
Born in Paris in 1987 but raised in Corsica, Florent Martin attended the Finosello vocational high school in Ajaccio, where he acquired the fundamental skills needed to work in the service industry. During his studies, he won the Georges Baptiste Cup at the national level in 2004, and the following year at the European level.
His professional debut was in Monaco at Alain Ducasse’s “Louis XV,” and he then became the head sommelier of the “Four Seasons George V Hotel” in Paris, before moving again to the prestigious 5-star hotel “The Peninsula,” also in Paris, where he still works today. Florent is also a member of the Wine and Champagne Tasting Committee of the Gault & Millau guide, and in 2020 he earned the prestigious title of Best Sommelier of France, after participating in several editions of the competition.
Florent strives to share his passion for wine and to make it accessible and enjoyable. Between 2017 and 2020, he contributed to the making of the docu-film "Sensations," which explores the world of sommelierie to share its magic in a sensitive and emotional way, through a mosaic of portraits of various talented sommeliers, including Philippe Faure Brac. Florent also participates in some taste education projects through writing, for both professionals and enthusiasts, and collaborates with Vinefloria to create original models of ceramic dishes and trays to expand wine tasting options and beverages. He also works with VoilaChef to teach wine tasting techniques, sharing advice for building a good cellar, and selecting wines for food pairing.
