Alessandro Nigro

Alessandro Nigro, a traveling sommelier for a few years, then settled in Paris, where his oenological talent was recognized with the title of "Best Sommelier in Italy Trentodoc Award," and finally in Cap Ferret, where his work at the MICHELIN-Starred restaurant "Le Cap" earned him the title of "Best Italian Sommelier 2022" and the award of "Sommelier of the Year 2023."

Alessandro Nigro was born in 1991 in Foggia. His journey began at the age of 18 in a trattoria in his hometown. Initially, Alessandro worked in the restaurant industry simply to support himself financially, but soon what had been a mere necessity transformed into a true passion.

After graduating in Viticulture and Enology from the University of Foggia, with a thesis dedicated to the critical aspects of spontaneous fermentations in the production of natural wines from biodynamically grown grapes, Alessandro trained as an oenologist in Bordeaux. At the same time, he obtained the AIS Sommelier Diploma and became an Official AIS Taster. He then honed his winemaking skills through various internships in Italy and France, including work experience as an assistant winemaker in Stellenbosch, South Africa, and again in France. In 2018, he made the choice to dedicate himself full-time to the profession of Sommelier, deciding to move to France with his partner Rita.

After settling in Paris, Alessandro embarked on his professional adventure at "La Dame de Pic," a MICHELIN-starred restaurant led by the renowned French chef Anne-Sophie Pic. After only 6 months, he was promoted to Assistant Head Sommelier within the same establishment. Subsequently, he received a call from Gabriele del Carlo, the Best Sommelier in Italy 2011 AIS, who hired Alessandro to join him at the Mediterranean MICHELIN-Starred restaurant "Le George" in the "Hotel Four Seasons George V" in Paris, recognized as the "Best Hotel in the World" in 2019. Alessandro worked passionately at "Le George" for 3 years, and in 2021, he was awarded the "Best Sommelier in Italy Trentodoc Award." Afterwards, he decided to relocate within the same hotel group to the French Riviera, in Cap Ferrat.

Since February 2022, he has held the prestigious role of Head Sommelier at the "Four Seasons Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat." With the support of his team, he masterfully manages 6 wine lists: one for the renowned MICHELIN-Starred restaurant "Le Cap," one for the sophisticated Mediterranean bistro "La Veranda," one for the bar, one for room service, one for the poolside restaurant "Club Dauphin," and one dedicated to special events. Alessandro appreciates being able to express his oenological vision through wines that reflect the chef's philosophy, deeply connected to local products and the Mediterranean Sea. Consequently, Italian wines have also held a prominent place in his selection.

Despite being young, throughout his career, Alessandro has already received significant recognition, including the title of "Best Italian Sommelier 2022" and the "Sommelier of the Year 2023" award conferred by Gault&Millau.
