Matteo Zappile sommelier 1

Matteo Zappile is a prominent sommelier with an extraordinary resume and contagious passion, who became a reference point for wine enthusiasts. Starting in small venues as a young person, he achieved remarkable results by working in renowned restaurants and earning various accolades. Dedication and the creation of unforgettable experiences set him apart as a master in his field.

Born in the heart of Salerno in 1984, Matteo Zappile has cultivated a passion for the art of good food and wine since a young age. His career in the industry began modestly in small venues, but his determination and talent allowed him to achieve extraordinary milestones.

At just 14 years old, Matteo embarked on his journey into the world of hospitality by working at the "Hotel Bellevue" in Cortina d'Ampezzo during his studies. In 2003, he obtained a diploma as an operator of Restaurant Services from the Virtuoso State Hospitality Institute, and in 2009, he earned a Sommelier diploma issued by the Italian Sommelier Association.

His successful journey and constant pursuit of excellence make him a reference point for wine and dining enthusiasts.

Matteo expanded his knowledge in the United Kingdom, Sicily, and Tuscany before landing on the Amalfi Coast at the prestigious restaurant "Rossellinis" in the "Hotel Palazzo Sasso," where he had the opportunity to refine his skills under the guidance of Daniele Di Palma, an authority in the field of sommelier. In 2010, he arrived in Rome to manage the wine cellar of the Two-MICHELIN-Starred restaurant "Il Pagliaccio" by Anthony Genovese, where Matteo serves as the Head Sommelier and, since 2016, Restaurant Manager.

In 2012, he became the Secretary General of "Noi di sala," and a year later, he was appointed the Wine Ambassador of Peace by the Cormons Producers. In 2014, he was awarded as the "Best Beer-Conscious Sommelier in Italy," receiving the prestigious Birra Moretti award. That same year, "Il Pagliaccio" received the "Premio Selezione di Bollicine" in the L'Espresso Guide, and Matteo received the "Premio Miglior Sommelier d'Italia" (Best Sommelier in Italy) by Gambero Rosso. In 2015, he received the "Premio Miglior Servizio di Sala" (Best Restaurant Service) by Gambero Rosso, and two years later, he was honored as the "Best Sommelier in Italy" by the Espresso Guide, as well as being appointed Chevalier des Ordre des Coteaux du Champagne, a title later progressed to Grand Officier des Ordre des Coteaux du Champagne in 2019.

In 2018, he received the award for the best service in the dining room by the I Cento di Roma guide, and the "Premio Miglior Maitre" (Best Maître) by the Food and Travel magazine. Two years later, he obtained the title of "Gran Maestro d'Arte" (Grand Master of Art) from the Confraternita del Bere Bene (Brotherhood of Fine Drinking).

Matteo continued to educate himself throughout the years, accumulating numerous accolades. Between 2011 and 2016, he obtained diplomas as a Professional Sommelier, Master Class Bibenda, Official Taster and Speaker AIS, INEI Coffee Taster, and Sake Sommelier issued by the SSA. In 2020, he also earned the title of Master Food and Beverage Manager from LUISS University in Rome.

His passion for working in the dining room is evident in his words: "We step onto the field every evening to offer the best of ourselves, to make our customers' experience unique. We strive to anticipate their desires and exceed their expectations. Our goal is to leave a positive and lasting mark in their memories."
