Sara Michela Orlando is both maître and sommelier, recognized for her dedication and expertise in the world of food and wine. At the helm of the dining room and wine cellar of the Michelin-starred restaurant Locanda di Orta, located in the charming village of Orta San Giulio, she helped to elevate the experience with a world-class wine selection and impeccable service.
Sara began her career at the side of chef Fabio Barbaglini at Caffè Groppi in Trecate, then continued at Villa Crespi under Antonino Cannavacciuolo and at the Locanda del Pilone in Alba. After an experience in the United Kingdom at The Waterside Inn near London, she returned to Italy to work at the Grand Hotel Principe di Piemonte in Viareggio. Her passion then led her to the Locanda di Orta.
The latter, a Michelin star, offers a refined experience on the shores of Lake Orta. The kitchen, under the direction of Andrea Monesi, is characterized by innovation and creativity, while maintaining strong ties to tradition. In this context, Orlando plays a crucial role in ensuring a high level of room service and in suggesting wine pairings that enhance the dishes, both national and international.
Sara's professionalism has been widely recognized in the industry, and in 2019 she received the prestigious Room Service Award at the presentation of the Michelin Italy 2020 Guide. Sponsored by Coppini Arte Olearia, it was awarded to her for her exceptional ability to harmonize work. Her philosophy is based on constant research, curiosity and dedication, elements that allow her to update the wine list daily and offer guests a unique sensory journey.
