Roberta Esposito is a talented Italian pizzaiola, renowned for her skill in creating pizzas that honor the roots of Campania's tradition. She runs La Contrada pizzeria in Aversa, near Caserta, where her creations have garnered prestigious accolades.
The Biography
Roberta Esposito was born in 1984 in Aversa, in the province of Caserta. Growing up in a family that cherished good food, she quickly developed a passion for the art of pizza making. La Contrada, the family restaurant founded over twenty years ago, is where Roberta began her professional journey. Located in a historic building in Piazza Guglielmo Marconi, the restaurant is known for its combination of a restaurant and pizzeria, with her brother Alessio managing the kitchen and Roberta overseeing the wood-fired oven.
Roberta's passion for pizza grew as she observed and worked alongside the pizzaiolos in the restaurant. Starting out as a sommelier, she eventually devoted herself entirely to the pizzeria, studying doughs and leavening techniques. Her dedication and creative spirit led her to experiment with various flours and cooking methods, resulting in pizzas that respect Neapolitan tradition while also incorporating contemporary elements.
In 2018, Roberta was named "Emerging Pizzaiola" by Gambero Rosso, and the following year, La Contrada received the Tre Spicchi award in the guide to the best pizzerias in Italy. Roberta is also known for her creative pizzas such as "Pizza e Fichi" and her tasting menu "Le 7 Margherite di Roberta," which explores different variations of the classic Margherita.
Beyond her main activity, Roberta participates in various television programs and culinary competitions, promoting the culture of Italian pizza and inspiring a new generation of pizzaiolos. Thanks to her commitment, La Contrada has become one of the most acclaimed pizzerias not only in Campania but throughout Italy.
