Among all of his restaurants, “La Grenouillère” stands out with its Two MICHELIN Stars, and among the awards, he holds the title of Chef of the Year by Gault & Millau 2017. Alexandre Gauthier is a chef of incredible talent and a successful entrepreneur.
Alexandre Gauthier was born in Boulogne-sur-Mer in 1979. Having been passionate about cooking from a young age, as he often was at the family inn, originally a 16th-century farmhouse, “La Grenouillère” in Madelaine-sous-Montreuil. He attended hotel school and then took over his father's position in 2003, leading the restaurant. The inn in the past had been awarded a MICHELIN Star, an award maintained and lost with the succession of different managements. Under Alexandre’s guidance, “La Grenouillère” regained the prestigious award in 2008. Then, in 2010, the restaurant was included in the list of the 100 Best Restaurants in the world by Restaurant magazine, ranked 76th, and the year after, it was renovated and expanded, being included among the Relais & Châteaux in 2013.
But Alexandre over the years has not only focused on “La Grenouillère”: in 2007, in collaboration with William Elliot, he opened “Froggy's Tavern” in Montreuil, a contemporary tavern that quickly gained recognition, becoming one of the nine best European concepts of 2008. In 2009, with Fabrice Lextra, he started “Les Grandes Tables du Channel” in Calais, a unique place where cooking meets the world of entertainment. In 2014, he acquired another restaurant in Montreuil, converted into “Anecdote” the following year, where diners can savor what Alexandre calls, “cuisine of memory.” 2015 saw him emerge as one of the leading culinary figures in France, presiding over heads of state at COP21 in Paris. Two years later, his commitment and passion were crowned with a second MICHELIN Star for “La Grenouillère”.
Alexandre has never stopped, participating in numerous festivals and conferences, including Gastronomika in San Sebastian in 2011 and the World Gourmet Summit in Singapore three years later, presenting his cuisine around the world. In 2022, he participated in the Top Chef show and prepared menus for a state dinner at Versailles in honor of the president of the United Arab Emirates. But the journey of the famous chef is dotted with awards and recognitions, as well as numerous venues openings and food sector conferences. From winning Food France in 2005, to being named Great Chef of Tomorrow by Gault-Millau in 2007, and nine years later receiving the Chef of the Year award from the same guide. Every step, every dish, every creation has contributed to solidifying his reputation and elevating him as one of the best chefs in France. In 2023, “La Grenouillère” rose in the ranking of The World's 50 Best Restaurants, reaching the 48th position, and Alxandre was candidate for the title of Best Chef in Wordl, a clear sign of Alexandre Gauthier's incredible talent and dedication in the world of gastronomy.
