Selected ingredients, an evocative location, and the mastery of chef Cristian Spagnoli to celebrate a gastronomic proposal that focuses on tradition, contemporaneity, and research. Here is what you can expect from Mi View, the highest restaurant in Milan.

Mi View

There are only a few places that can pause time. This is a place difficult to describe, at least until you experience it firsthand. Ascending to the 20th floor of the Mi View Restaurant, atop the WJC Tower at the Portello in Milan, is just like entering a new dimension, different from anything you might find in any other restaurants around. The sense one gets is more like being across the ocean, where dining amidst the clouds is no longer news, and where man has become accustomed to hanging in the sky and is not surprised anymore.

From up here one can see the chaotic city changing color, moving, bustling. Beyond the glass, the chaos, on this side the calm of those preparing to enjoy dinner.

Entering the all-glass dining room, there it is: Milan reveals itself in all its boldness and beauty, 360 degrees. A gorgeous sight, made even more special by the sun slowly descending between the skyscrapers, leaving behind the early evening’s orange glow.

The restaurant and cuisine

But beyond the spectacle framing the experience, the centerpiece of the moment of enjoyment has its eye on the table. Leading the brigade since 2019 is Executive Chef Cristian Spagnoli. His dishes are not only amazing in taste, but they go beyond the dishes, telling you a story.

Tradition, contemporaneity, and research are the keynotes of his creative trait. Originally from Franciacorta, after various experiences in starred restaurants between Italy and France, he has won numerous awards, such as "European champion of hot cooking," and was a finalist for the world title. Striking in his gastronomic philosophy at work is his ability to evolve by presenting highly identifiable, recognizable dishes, but also able to enhance the different nuances of an ever-evolving cuisine.

Sitting at the Mi View table is always a wonderful discovery. The dance begins and you already know that what you are going to see will be an exciting ballet, but each time the surprise is even more amazing than the imagined. Excellent service, attentive brigade, and a product placed at the center of the taste stage. Only ingredients selected from agri-food companies are used, excellence is celebrated and enhanced in all forms. Mi View proposes a multisensory journey in a crescendo of tastes, aromas, and colors.

The dishes

Three tasting menus are available: "Espressione", consisting of multiple courses, a great way to learn about Mi View's cooking concept; “Intrecci”, made up of six courses, and “Passione”, including four completely vegetarian preparations. Do you prefer ordering a la carte instead? No problem at all. The menu offers a wide selection of appetizers, first courses, main courses, and desserts. Also worth trying is the cheese trolley, accompanied by artisanal compotes. Among the many possibilities, some stand out for their elegance and unforgettable flavor.

One of those is “Ricci in testa” (head curls), an iconic dish of the restaurant, gold-drawn Verrigni spaghetti embellished with sea urchins, calf's head, and chocolate grue. A modern revisitation of surf and turf, great for those who love the taste of the sea, but at the same time fascinated by the strong flavors of the fifth quarter.

In chef Spagnoli's hands everything finds balance, as with the dish "Volo pindarico" (Pindaric flight), a pigeon breast cured for 45 days in cocoa butter, hazelnut praline with hints of elderberry. After the main courses, it’s time for dessert. and you’re not going to be disappointed. A must-try is "Sem a Milan", (“we are in Milan”, in local dialect) which has become a symbol of Mi View: saffron custard, bone marrow ice cream, tangerine sourness, all served with a wonderful scenic mist.

In the silence that follows the very last bite, your eyes begin to wander. The evening has fallen, the sky is dotted with stars and the moon seems to want to sit at the table with you. Take a moment to internalize everything: sounds, perceptions, tastes, smells. You’ll realize that magic had happened: it started from the plate to unfold slowly but surely among the diners, a kind of spell that stirs a smile on everyone's lips. It’s the power of food, the power of sharing, and the gratification of the senses.
