Already a hospitality facility, and the set of the Sissi trilogy, with renovation the Rosewood Schloss Fuschl becomes a luxury mega-hotel featuring a spa and leading-edge amenities.
The news
Originally conceived as a hunting lodge in 1461, this building has seen centuries of history and famous people pass by, including actress Romy Schneider, who filmed some scenes of the Sissi trilogy there (consaracrating it to worldwide fame thanks to the success of films on the Austrian empress's life). Its transformation into a luxury hotel dates back to 1947, but it is only now that the castle shines with new splendor. Indeed, July 1, 2024 marked the reopening of the magnificent Rosewood Schloss Fuschl, a true jewel set on the turquoise shores of the Fuschlsee at the foot of the Austrian Alps, now comepletely renovated.
This historic site, built in the 15th century for the prince-archbishops of Salzburg, is being presented in a new light, thanks to a meticulous renovation that celebrates its rich past and timeless luxury. But what has changed? The Rosewood Schloss Fuschl, Rolling Pin reports, now offers 98 rooms, including 42 exclusive suites and six chalets. Every design detail is a tribute to the region's historical legacy and natural beauty. “Rosewood Schloss Fuschl is more than just a castle - it is the gateway to the extraordinary Salzkammergut region. From the moment of arrival, guests are enveloped in the timeless charm of this royal retreat,” says Sascha Hemmann, general manager of Rosewood Schloss Fuschl. The rooms, with hand-painted minibars by Austrian artist Marie Hartig, reflect the hues of the seasons, blending tradition and modernity in perfect harmony.
In the “empress-like” facility, there could be no shortage of wellness: Rosewood Schloss Fuschl also offers the Asaya Spa, which promises personalized programs based on Austrian wellness philosophy. The 1,500-square-meter center includes indoor and outdoor pools, three saunas, a steam room and treatment rooms, as well as a fitness area equipped with Technogym machines. Guests can also benefit from two or three-day packages focused on biohacking, body treatments, detoxification and sleep regularization.
The gastronomic offerings at Rosewood Schloss Fuschl also live up to expectations. With six restaurants and bars, including the flagship Schloss Restaurant, the cuisine fully celebrates the richness of the region. Dishes range from classics to culinary innovations such as Styrian mountain shrimp with Blutwurst tortelli and beurre blanc with sauerkraut. Sustainability is at the heart of the castle's culinary philosophy, with fresh ingredients sourced from local lakes and farms, thus reducing environmental impact.
The Sissi-Teesalon pays tribute to Empress Elisabeth of Austria, offering light meals and creative desserts throughout the day, prepared by pastry chef Jeremie Baessler. Guests can enjoy afternoon teas in a setting that evokes imperial elegance, completing the experience with delicious pastries and pralines. The Schloss Bar area, decorated by artist Marie Hartig, also offers classic and innovative cocktails, which can be enjoyed next to a 15th-century fireplace. For whiskey aficionados, the Whisky Room features a wide selection of spirits, wines, and brandies in an intimate setting. Finally, the rustic Vinothek, with its cozy terrace, is the ideal place for a traditional Austrian “Jause,” a perfect opportunity to enjoy a convivial moment surrounded by the natural beauty of the place.
