Chef and owner of Il Buco in Sorrento, Giuseppe Aversa celebrates Mediterranean cuisine through authenticity, creativity, and deep respect for his territory. Holder of a Michelin Star since 2004, he has brought the flavors of Southern Italy to the world.

Giuseppe Aversa’s connection to food was born in childhood — an identity rooted in family, community, and the culture of his homeland. After years of traveling and working abroad, his bond with Sorrento called him home. In 1997, he opened Il Buco, located in the vaulted cellar of an ancient monastery in the heart of the city.

His cuisine reinterprets Mediterranean tradition through a contemporary lens, preserving the essence of southern Italian flavors while refining them with elegance and precision. In 2004, he earned a Michelin Star, which he has proudly maintained ever since, along with numerous awards and mentions in major gastronomic guides.

Throughout his career, Aversa has represented Italian cuisine at prestigious international events — from the Euro MPS Gala Dinner in Strasbourg to a special dinner at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C., as well as Kosher fine dining events at London’s Millennium Hotel. He served as Executive Chef for Naomi Campbell’s 41st birthday party on the private island of Li Galli, and has acted as an ambassador of Italian cuisine in Russia, Canada, the United States, and China, collaborating with renowned venues such as the Ritz-Carlton in Miami, The Epcot Center in Orlando, and S.D.26 in New York alongside the legendary Tony May.

A respected educator, he has taught masterclasses at several leading culinary institutions, including the Hostellerie School of Namur in Belgium, the Boscolo Etoile Chef School, Loughborough College, and ALMA International Cooking School. He has also curated high-profile events such as the World Travel Market Gala Dinner in London, and partnered with top Italian wineries, including Pommery and Ca’ del Bosco.

Since 2018, Aversa has collaborated with the Jinling Hotel in Nanjing, China, sharing the excellence of Mediterranean cuisine with the Asian market.

Today, Il Buco remains a culinary landmark in Sorrento — a meeting point between memory and innovation. Through his refined yet heartfelt dishes, Aversa tells the story of his land: a celebration of simplicity, culture, and the enduring beauty of Southern Italy.
