Andrea Carlson is a Canadian chef and restaurateur known for her commitment to using local and organic ingredients. In 2013, she opened Burdock & Co. in Vancouver, a restaurant that will receive a Michelin star in 2022, making her the first woman in Canada at the helm of a venue awarded by the Guide.
Born in Toronto, Ontario, Andrea Carlson developed an early interest in cooking and bought her first New York Times cookbook at the age of 13. She continued her education at the Dubrulle Culinary Arts School, now part of the Art Institute of Vancouver.
Her professional career began as a sous chef at Vancouver's Star Anise. She went on to work at renowned local establishments including Raincity Grill, C Restaurant and Sooke Harbour House. From 2007 to 2012, she was executive chef at the prestigious Bishop's Restaurant.
In 2012, Andrea opened Harvest Community Foods, a store and ramen bar focused on transparency and sustainability. The following year, in May 2013, she opened Burdock & Co. in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood, offering original dishes at affordable prices. In 2020, she expanded her operations with the opening of Bar Gobo, a wine bar in the Chinatown neighborhood.
Andrea's philosophy is based on using local, fresh, organic and seasonal ingredients, so she works closely with local farmers, ranchers and suppliers. This approach earned her eatery a Michelin star in 2022.
