Tony Gemignani is owner of several restaurants in the United States. In 2007, he became the first U.S. world champion among pizza makers at the World Pizza Cup in Naples, Italy; he is known for his dedication to promoting the italian culinary tradition abroad.
Born in Fremont, California, Tony Gemignani began working at his brother's restaurant, Pyzano, in Castro Valley in 1991. There he developed his skills in pizza throwing acrobatics, competing internationally and winning eight world titles between 1995 and 2007.
In 2007, he was the first american to become the "World Champion Pizza Maker" in the Neapolitan Pizza STG category at the World Pizza Cup in Naples, Italy. This success cemented his worldwide reputation.
In 2009, he opened Tony's Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood, where he offers a variety of styles using only the highest quality ingredients. There is no lack of tradition, especially when it comes to technique.
50 Top Pizza has recognized the excellence of Tony's restaurant several times, including in 2024, when it was ranked #2 in the U.S. and #6 in the world. He also received the "Pizza of the Year 2024" - Latteria Sorrentina Award for his Mission Impossible.
Gemignani has contributed to the spread of the industry by publishing books, including The Pizza Bible, and founding the International School of Pizza, where he trains new generations.
