Christopher Coutanceau is an internationally renowned chef known for his deep connection to the ocean and his commitment to sustainability. Owner of the eponymous restaurant in La Rochelle, he has been awarded three Michelin stars and a Green Star for his cuisine that celebrates the treasures of the sea while respecting the environment.
Growing up in La Rochelle, France, Christopher Coutanceau developed a passion for the sea at an early age, influenced by his fisherman grandfather and his parents, Richard and Maryse Coutanceau, owners of a Michelin-starred restaurant. After attending the Lycée Hôtelier, he honed his skills working with renowned chefs such as Michel Guérard, Ferran Adrià and Guy Martin.
In 2001, at the age of 22, he opened Le Vieux Port and then returned to the family business, becoming director in 2007 alongside sommelier Nicolas Brossard. Under his leadership, the restaurant maintained its two stars and received its third star in 2020 (only to lose it in 2023).
In 2019, Coutanceau was awarded a Michelin Green Star. In addition to the main restaurant, he is inaugurating La Yole de Chris, a waterfront brasserie, and Villa Grand Voile, a luxury hotel offering a refined experience. His culinary philosophy is based on the use of local and seasonal products, with a focus on sustainability and respect for the marine ecosystem. He is known for her ability to enhance the flavors of the ocean, creating dishes that reflect her deep connection to the coast.
