Raised in the world of dining, Giorgio Locatelli, after pursuing studies unrelated to gastronomy and facing challenging experiences in high-end kitchens, became a MICHELIN-Starred chef, author, and beloved television personality in both England and Italy.

Giorgio Locatelli was born on April 7, 1963, in Carogeno. He began exploring culinary arts from a young age, inspired by his family environment: his father was a successful MICHELIN-Starred chef, while his uncle, Renato Gnocchi, is known for the famous Amaretti di Gallarate, globally acclaimed. Despite the family's reluctance for him to pursue a cooking career, Locatelli, initially studying dental technology, found himself irresistibly drawn to the kitchen. He decided to follow his passion, starting at “Cinzianella” under his father's guidance and then broadening his experience abroad.

At 20, Locatelli moved to London in 1983, honing his skills at the “Savoy Hotel” and gaining experience in Switzerland. However, it was the allure of French cuisine that led him to Paris, where he worked at “Laurent” and then at “Tour d'Argent.” His time at the latter was particularly tough, marked by bullying and racism. Yet, this challenge motivated him to excel, kickstarting his successful career. In 1995, after four years in France and marrying Plaxy Cornelia Exton, Locatelli returned to London, distinguishing himself at “Olivo” and later at “Zafferano,” where he earned his first MICHELIN Star in 1999.

In 2002, he opened his own restaurant, “Locanda Locatelli,” which became a benchmark for Italian cuisine in London, quickly earning a MICHELIN Star and maintaining it for over two decades. In 2014, tragedy struck when a gas leak explosion destroyed the restaurant. Following significant renovations, Locanda reopened with a renewed menu and culinary approach, influenced by his daughter Margherita, who suffers from severe food allergies and is vegan. Locatelli incorporated inclusive and vegan options into the menu, catering to his daughter's needs and a growing health-conscious audience.

Parallel to his restaurant career, Locatelli ventured into television, starring in "Italy Unpacked" alongside Andrew Graham-Dixon. His culinary expertise and communication skills made him a favorite among viewers. He is also the author of several books, including "Tony & Giorgio," "Made in Sicily," and "Made at Home."

In 2016, he was awarded the title of Commendatore of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. Two years later, his TV career further solidified with his role as a judge on Masterchef Italia, where he captivated audiences with his charisma. In January 2021, he notably advocated for Italian restaurateurs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
