“Every day is a new challenge. In my thirty-year career, no two days have ever been the same. I love the opportunity to be innovative in a hospitality industry that often risks falling victim to globalization.” A great master of hospitality takes Florence to the top of the world.

The triumph of Florentine hospitality: Claudio Meli named “Hotelier of the Year 2025” in Las Vegas

A global award celebrates the excellence and savoir faire of Italian hospitality. Claudio Meli, General Manager of THE PLACE Florence, has been awarded the prestigious title of Hotelier of the Year 2025 by the Virtuoso network, the most authoritative international network for luxury tourism professionals. The award was presented during Virtuoso Travel Week in Las Vegas, an event that brought together over 4,700 industry experts from 105 countries. But there's more.

A model of hospitality that goes beyond luxury

The award is not only a tribute to Meli's career, but also a tribute to his ability to redefine the concept of luxury hospitality. Thanks to his vision, THE PLACE Firenze, a twenty-room residence overlooking Piazza Santa Maria Novella, has become an example of excellence. The hotel was conceived not as a simple accommodation, but as a “Florentine home,” a place for meeting and dialogue that authentically connects visitors with the city and its inhabitants. “Hospitality is my passion. Since the beginning of my career as a concierge affiliated with the Chiavi d'Oro, I have always tried to surprise my guests with unexpected and out-of-the-ordinary experiences in my beloved Florence,” explains Meli. “Every day is a new challenge. In thirty years of career, I have never experienced two days that were the same. I love the opportunity to be innovative in a world that often risks becoming a victim of globalization, devoid of personality and sense of place.”

This approach has been defined by the great master of hospitality as “tailor-made hospitality.” The goal is to go beyond pre-packaged standards, prioritizing human interaction and authenticity. The success of this philosophy is proof that quality, authenticity, and personalization can prevail even in a market dominated by big global brands.

A cultural hub in the heart of Florence

Meli's contribution extends far beyond the walls of the hotel, leaving a tangible mark on the urban fabric of Florence. THE PLACE Firenze has played a key role in the rebirth of Piazza Santa Maria Novella, which has regained its centrality and vitality thanks to careful redevelopment. At the heart of this transformation is The Kitchen & The Bar, the hotel's restaurant and cocktail bar. Conceived as a bridge between luxury and community, it has become a landmark not only for international guests but also for residents.

Under the guidance of Executive Chef Asso Migliore, the cuisine celebrates the meeting of innovation and Tuscan authenticity, enhancing the genuine flavors of the region with seasonal ingredients. The dining experience is enhanced by meticulous attention to detail, a tribute to local craftsmanship: from Ginori porcelain to Moleria Locchi crystal, every element contributes to a multisensory experience. With its splendid terrace overlooking the Basilica, the restaurant offers a unique setting for every occasion, from an informal lunch to a sophisticated aperitif, confirming its status as a crossroads of cultures and flavors.

From career to promoting Made in Italy

Born in Florence in 1973, Meli began his career as a concierge in the international association Les Clefs D'Or. After gaining significant international experience, he returned to his hometown to put his talent and vision to good use. In addition to his managerial role, Meli is a staunch supporter and promoter of Made in Italy and Florentine craftsmanship. He is at the forefront of The Place of Wonders Foundation, established by the Babini family (owners of The Hospitality Experience collection), which supports cultural and creative projects to preserve crafts and traditions and train new generations of talent. After all, Meli is always looking ahead: “I write books, I constantly discover new hidden gems to present to our guests, and through our foundation dedicated to artisans, The Place of Wonders, we give back value and support to the local community of master craftsmen. All this is possible thanks to an extraordinary team that shares my adventures and my values.”

A victory for independence and passion

Virtuoso's award is not only a personal victory for Meli, but also for The Hospitality Experience, an independent company that has distinguished itself and excelled. This achievement demonstrates the value of an approach that combines tailor-made attention to detail, the enhancement of human capital, and a deeply human vision of hospitality.
