Born in Troisdorf, Germany (1982), Daniel Gottschlich is the chef-owner of Ox & Klee (2 Michelin stars since 2019) and Puls in Cologne. Known for blending technique, music, and design, he is the first chef to be awarded an artist’s grant from Villa Massimo.
Daniel Gottschlich was born on November 16, 1982, in Troisdorf. Initially, he trained as an electrical technician before discovering his true vocation in the kitchen. After culinary training at the Grandhotel Petersberg, he worked as sous-chef at Brauhaus Früh in Cologne.
In 2010, he opened Ox & Klee in the Neustadt-Süd district; in 2015, he earned his first Michelin star. After relocating the restaurant to the modern Rheinauhafen area in 2016, he achieved his second Michelin star in 2019.
In 2022, Gottschlich launched Puls – Restaurant & Bar in Cologne’s old town, adding a contemporary concept to his established fine-dining project.
His cuisine is defined by a multisensory concept called “Experience Taste”, built around six fundamental flavors (sweet, salty, bitter, sour, umami, fat), expressed creatively in each course. His menus reinterpret traditional dishes—such as the Halver Hahn—through immersive performances that engage sight, taste, and touch.
