Andreas Caminada is an internationally renowned culinary talent, he has gained numerous accolades, solidifying his reputation as one of the world's best chefs. From his MICHELIN-Starred restaurant to his foundation, Caminada has demonstrated a dedication to culinary excellence. In addition to his Michelin stars, he holds Gault&Millau hats, and the title of "Chef of the Year". He has also published several culinary books and served as a judge on “MasterChef Schweiz”.



 

Andreas Caminada, born in 1977 in the small hamlet of Ilanz, Switzerland, grew up in the picturesque Grisons town of Sagogn, and from a young age, showed a passion for cooking.

He completed his apprenticeship in 1996 at the "Hotel Signina" in Laax and until 1998, he worked in different parts of several professional kitchens. He held the position of pastry chef at the "Hotel Walserhof" in Klosters, before serving in other roles at the "Hotel Deuring Schlössle" in Bregenz and the "Bareiss" restaurant in Baiersbronn. During this time, he gained extensive experience and honed his skills, which allowed him to start his restaurant in the historic Castle of Fürstenau municipality, the Schloss Schauenstein, from which Caminada's activity takes its name.

Throughout his career, Andreas has received numerous prestigious awards that testify to his extraordinary talent and dedication. In 2005, the Gault-Millau Guide named Caminada "Discovery of the Year" and awarded him 15 points out of 20. In the same year, “Schloss Schauenstein” received its first MICHELIN Star, and in 2006, the Gault-Millau Guide gave the chef an additional point from the previous year.

In 2008, the Gault-Millau Guide once again recognized Andreas's constant commitment as a champion of culinary excellence, naming him "Chef of the Year". That same year, the Bertelsmann Guide gave him the title of "Chef of the Year" in Switzerland and “Schloss Schauenstein” received Two MICHELIN Stars.

In 2010, Caminada was named "Chef of the Year" by the Gault-Millau Guide for the second time and received an outstanding score of 19 points, today equivalent to the highest recognition of 5 hats out of 5, an extraordinary achievement that underlines his continuous growth and innovative spirit.

In 2011, the Michelin Guide awarded Caminada the third star for his restaurant, placing the chef at the pinnacle of the gastronomic Olympus at just 34 years old.

In the following years, Caminada continued to garner significant recognitions. In 2012, the Schlemmer Atlas named him one of the "best chefs of the year" and he also received the "Grisons of the Year" award from the Canton of Grisons, in Switzerland. The same year, he married Sarah Caminada, with whom he later had a son, Finn Henry.

In 2016, the chef was awarded the "Eckart 2016 for Great Culinary Art" and “Schloss Schauenstein” reached second place in the Top100+ European Restaurants list.

In 2018, Andreas received the International Honorary Trophy Gourmet from the Austrian magazine "À La Carte".

“Schloss Schauenstein” was ranked 47th in the list of "The World's 50 Best Restaurants".

The restaurant also earned a green Michelin star for sustainability, about which the chef says: "We aspire to always and only serve the best! It took a long time to reach this goal, but we support organic farmers and use their products."

Andreas Caminada has published several books since 2019 and in 2023, he served as a judge on the TV show "MasterChef Schweiz".

Andreas Caminada is known not only for “Schloss Schauenstein” but also for his numerous other activities. The vegetarian restaurant “OZ”, “Casa Caminada”, the sophisticated gourmet restaurant, and boutique hotel “Mammertsberg”, an at-home catering service, the Caminada magazine, the second restaurant brand “IGNIV”, as well as the "Fundaziun Uccelin", aimed at protecting and promoting young culinary talents. His involvement in various professional and cultural initiatives highlights his multifaceted vision of the gastronomic world.
