His name is Rocco Camasta and he owns a burger bar in Modugno, where the best sandwich on the Peninsula is made. Here is the chef whose "Rimini" made with chocolate and chestnuts was crowned "king of gourmet burgers."

The news

The fifth edition of Burger Battle, a competition that saw as many as 6 finalists "skimmed" from an initial list of 60 participants challenge each other in a gourmet burger competition, with a total of 3500 sandwiches served and 3800 visitors to the booth during the event, has recently concluded. The winner of the title, awarded for his mouth-watering creation, is a boy from Puglia: we are talking about chef Rocco Camasta, who with his Rimini sandwich won over the jury for originality of ingredients and taste.

Rocco Camasta is now the king of the perfect gourmet burger and will be brand ambassador of Burger Battle throughout 2023. Owner of a burger bar and steakhouse in Modugno (The Butcher), he won thanks to a curious combination of products, capable of debunking the idea of the classic fast-food sandwich. But what are the lucky combinations that made it No. 1? Scottona Carne al Fuoco - Aia, squacquerone, radicchio, 99% dark chocolate, ginger, pistachio pesto, chestnuts and Develey honey-mustard sauce on Skyr Pastridor bread.

It was precisely the bold and well-calibrated matches that secured him the title because the judges, which included Executive Chef Roberto Lodovichi (a member of the Italian Federation of Chefs) and Amelia Gioiasano (a bakery specialist) rated the sandwich truly perfect. After all, the test, named "Out of The Box," precisely leveraged the ability to innovate classic and most popular recipes.

Dark chocolate and chestnuts, along with a quality meat for that culinary strand that combines homemade street food with a thread of sophistication behind the stove, proved to be the right strategy to bring home a title coveted by many. And if these sweet elements, which we are more accustomed to enjoying at breakfast, sound strange when added to the classic burger with fries, all that's left is to pop over to Puglia to remove any doubts and take a bite of the acclaimed winner.
