Karime Lopez

Karime López, born and raised in Messico, is a world-renowned chef who embodies a boundless culinary journey. Today, as the co-executive chef at Gucci Osteria in Florence, López has exceptionally merged her Mexican roots with the excellence of Italian cuisine.

Biography

Karime López's career began in 2007 at the renowned Pujol restaurant of Enrique Olvera in Mexico City, followed by training at the prestigious Ryugin in Tokyo with Chef Seiji Yamamoto. Later, she joined Chef Virgilio Martinez's brigade in Peru, starting as an executive at his (now closed) restaurant Senzo in Cusco, before moving to Central, Martinez's flagship restaurant in Lima.

She perfectly represents Italy with her strong roots open to the outside world. Currently, she is co-executive chef alongside her husband Takahiko Kondo at Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura in Florence. Here, she presents her personal vision of playful and colorful cuisine, enriched with high-quality local ingredients, personal memories, and travels that have marked her life.

In 2019, Karime López became the first Mexican chef to receive a Michelin star for her work at Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura in Florence. Her menu challenges the traditional perception of Italian cuisine, creating playful interpretations of classic dishes.
